Salvia leucantha 'Santa Barbara' - Compact Mexican Bush Sage P.P. #12949

Salvia leucantha 'Santa Barbara' P.P. #12949 is very similar to the species Mexican Bush Sage only it is more compact and will not need to be pruned as often. The flowers are a velvety purple rose color with a lighter purple lip. This Salvia will bloom from Fall until frost and is great for attracting hummingbirds into the garden. The growth habit is upright and it can grow 2.5' tall with a 4' spread. Foliage is a gray-green color with a fuzzy silver backing. Compact Mexican Bush Sage was found in 1999 by California gardener Kathiann Brown in Santa Barbara. This compact salvia was a chance seedling that was observed in the garden to be more dwarf and to have better branching than the species.
